Issa Al Sabousi, who is in charge of the Year of Sustainability team, said that the UAE government’s decision to make 2023 the Year of Sustainability shows how committed the country is to tackling problems and promoting sustainable practices.

Al Sabousi told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the “Road to COP28” event at Expo City Dubai that the Year of Sustainability includes a series of initiatives and events that will run until December 2023 to encourage people and communities to live in ways that protect the environment.

Sustainability has to do with climate change, but it also has to do with what people do that affects how other people live and, in turn, the environment. The focus of the Year of Sustainability is on projects that aim to protect biodiversity, help environmental systems, and cut carbon emissions.

The Year of Sustainability also brings together sustainability experts who live in the country through a network. They talk about ways to deal with issues related to sustainability and encourage good behavior. They also try to get the public involved in three areas: promoting responsible consumption patterns, starting projects that protect the environment, and getting people to work together on climate change, he said.

“Experts in this network will help with related research, inform the Year of Sustainability team about relevant policies and initiatives in the public and private sectors, and keep the team up to date on best practices in this area,” Al Sabousi said in closing.

Issa Al Sabousi, team leader of the Year of Sustainability, emphasized that the guidance of the UAE leadership to designate 2023 as the Year of Sustainability underscores the country’s commitment to addressing challenges and promoting sustainable practices .

In his statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the “Road to COP28” event at Expo City Dubai, Al Sabousi said the Year of Sustainability includes a series of initiatives and events that will run until December 2023, to encourage individuals and communities to adopt lifestyles that protect the environment.

Sustainability is linked to climate change, but also to individual practices that affect collective daily habits and thus the environment, he added. The Year of Sustainability focuses on initiatives that aim to preserve biodiversity, support environmental systems and reduce carbon emissions.

The Year of Sustainability also brings together sustainability experts living in the country through a connected network to discuss ways to address sustainability-related issues and encourage positive behavior, and encourage public participation in three areas, namely promoting responsible consumption patterns, launching initiatives that protect the environment and inspire collective climate action, he added.

“Experts within this network will support related research and inform the Year of Sustainability team on relevant policies and initiatives in the public and private sectors, and provide updates on best practices in this area,” Al Sabousi concluded.
